Madelyn | Newborn

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

It was rainy and mild outside. Kind of dark. But the light from the window was soft and fell beautifully on her fresh face. She was born just over a week ago, right as the flowers began to pop with blooms and brightness. She sleeps with one eye open and on her side. The warmth of her mother’s embrace is all she desires. She doesn’t want you to get closer to her with flowers, and elbows them off of her if she can keep her eyes open long enough. She smiles in her sleep. And I must say. I have never been so enchanted by a subject. Madelyn, this sweet baby girl, is the daughter of two extremely happy parents who have been praying for this little one for so long. Welcome into the world, sweet girl!

Bless the love between daddies and daughters.

New Little Buddy

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

I’d like to welcome a new little guy to my gear bag. He sits beside my two favorites: 50mm and 135mm. He is a tool I have been hoping to get my hands on for the past few months. Even though I only plan to pull him out only for a few shots, he is TOTALLY worth it. So, my dear clients who love sparkly diamond pictures, welcome my new little buddy who will make your rings look AMAZING…drum roll… Mr. 100mm Macro.

Just so you know, this is my ring. It is SO perfect. Just saying.

I am so proud and humbled to announce that Jacqueline’s beautiful Maryland wedding has caught more attention. Hitched, a couture wedding boutique in Georgetown is featuring her wedding and her photography today and tomorrow! They had such kind things to say about Alisandra Photography, and I am so thankful! I have not met any of the Hitched family personally, however I still would recommend any brides in DC Metro area go pay them a visit!

Fine Art Books

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

Having just officially started shop in July 2010, I have been wanting to land on an album company. I wanted my clients to be excited about the quality of the craftsmanship as well as the uniqueness of the style, but also to be excited about the price. I made one of my goals at WPPI 2011 to be to find an album company who would meet those needs. Well, I found one.

These are not so much albums as they are Fine Art Books. I would describe them as Fine Art Books because they are far less bulky than your traditional album and they are printed on museum quality, matte, fine art paper. This combination makes each page you turn an experience. Here are some photos of the studio samples I have to show clients.

Dulce Bookcloth, show with engraving.

Cafe Leather

Full Photo Wrap

If you are a previous client, did not have this option available for you, and are interested in ordering a Fine Art Book, please inquire about options and pricing!

The Juicy Post

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

I know that my beautiful citrus delectables are “in season” in the winter. Whateves. No one sits down to a chilled cutting board of freshly picked citrus to escort their hot chocolate in front of the Christmas tree. Ok. Sometimes my mom cut me an orange or two. But what better beach snack than a juicy GRAPEFUIT. Or how fun is it to split open a PUMMELO on the front porch where it doesn’t matter where you get the little peelings all over the place! Anyway, I’ve been craving citrus lately, and here are some photos to supplement my obsession.

Goodbye, Bookmark

Friday, March 18th, 2011

Let me interrupt myself with an apology and confession. I went to eat mexican last night instead of blogging! Part of me feels shamed because I said I’d blog. BUT. Mexican with the husband was a perfect replacement!

On to my au revoirs.

You engaged ladies. Do you find ideas and bookmark them? I did too. I actually have two computers, so when I was planning my wedding it was such a pain trying to navigate and go back to my ideas. And what was what? I needed a visual reference. And that is why I am convinced this is one of the GREATEST wedding planning tools out right now.

Say hello to Pinterest. A perfect visual, no-scissors, scrapbooking system, and yet, so much more!

Let me just say. I wish I were planning my wedding again because this would have made it SO much easier.

Once you’ve signed on [and you will], you’ve found an image [you know, from one of the thousand wedding resources on the web], click “Pin It,” and Pinterest saves your “pin.” You can search other people’s and re-pin their pins. It is wonderful.

PLEASE, brides, use me as a reference. http://pinterest.com/alisandraphoto/if-i-got-married-again/ I want to help you as much as I can, and this is a small, yet HUGE tool to get your ideas into one place, if not into motion.

I must say. Bookmarking, say your goodbyes. I’ll pin from now on.  With Love, Happy Pinning!

The Richardsons

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

I got a call, of course from a former housemate, “Candace is dating someone!” They met kind of forcefully. Michael came up and inserted himself in a conversation because he thought Candace was cute. Luckily, the feelings were mutual. Because all four housemates live all over the place, we saw Candace’s romance grow on facebook.  Because, “I stalk you” is the new “I love you” among friends. There were pictures of Candace and Michael at football games, parties, meeting families, walking Michael’s dog, beach trips, and then… Candace is engaged to Michael Ricardson. Needless to say, “Like.”

I L-O-V-E little girls at weddings. They think they’ve stepped into a fairy tale and come alive. Also, BEAUTIFUL flowers.

JM U wish you had a Duke Dog… AT YOUR WEDDING!

Congrats, happy couple! Thanks for letting me be part of your special day! Candace, you looked STUNNING.

Come May

Monday, March 14th, 2011

Friday was an amazing day, praise the Lord. So many worries were put to rest. I got the phone call around 4:25. “Charlotte” he started…”sville.” And just like that, without any further discussion, he had to go. And I had to call my daddy. Chad and I, and Alisandra Photography, are moving to Charlottesville, VA.

So what does this mean? Chad graduates from BB&T’s Leadership Development Program on May 13. As far as I know, we are to be living there on May 16. We will be 2 hours from my family, 3 hours from Chad’s family, 1 hour from Chad’s brother. In 2004, Charlottesville was named “Best Place to Live,” and is home to UVA. And, for you music fans, Red Light Management is here [ehem...Dave Matthews Band anyone?]! So there really are lots of amazing things going on here!

In terms of business, there are so many wonderful wedding venues!  I know this because my first wedding photography job, second shooting for Rob Garland Photographers, was based in Charlottesville! There are so many wonderful vendors in this city, and I’m so proud to join them!

SO. There you have it. In other news, I actually ATTENDED a wedding this weekend and  will have those photos [yes, I still brought my camera] up some time tomorrow!

Waiting

Friday, March 11th, 2011

For those of you who don’t know, BB&T holds The Williamson’s fate in their hands. Well, sort of. My husband works for BB&T and has been training in Winston Salem since July. In May, we pick up and move to an undisclosed location. Today, Chad and I are told our “orders,” as my mom calls it. Our next home. PLACEMENT DAY.

We are SO excited about the news, a little nervous, yet totally sure that the Lord will have us placed where HE wants. It is, after all, in His hands. “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” I am reminded by Hebrews 11:8 that I too am going to the place where God has called me [us] and right now, I have NO idea where that could be.  Abraham’s inheritance happened to be a whole race of people, land, and offspring like whoa. In a way, the Lord is giving us a people as well. A community to care for and to come along side of–he has been preparing this and will provide us with new friends and family, and a place to call home… wherever it is…

The footprint of possibilities is the whole SOUTH EAST! From Maryland to Texas to Florida. If you read this, please comment with your guess of where you think they’ll place us. If you guess correctly, there may be a fun surprise for you come Monday [Yes, I'm waiting to reveal the location on Monday!] Let the guesses begin…

Pieces

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

I have been all over the place today! Bouncing from snack to snack, computer to computer, music to television [for background noise]… here is what has made be smile, even if it too is all over the place.

  1. Reading Jasmine Star’s blog. particularly, this post. When my mind is all over the place, her blog is a perfect “refocusing” tool for me. She has posts about many different things, but her “advice” serves me well.
  2. After looking at our Christmas photos [yes, Christmas. Don't judge.], I found this beauty. This is me. Washing dishes in my pink rubber gloves. And don’t miss the crown [tiara?]… I wear it sometimes when I want to get Chad’s attention. And apparently flex my triceps, too.
  3. Shells. Summer is coming! Warm air. Weddings! My first wedding of the year is on April 2. I am PUMPED!
  4. Coats. Hot drinks. Cold hands. Au Revoir! :)
