Alex + Ashleigh | Ellanor Lawrence Park Engagement Session

Friday, May 18th, 2012

Alex and I knew each other when we were younger. We haven’t really talked since high school, but I was so excited to receive an email from him telling me that he was engaged to a girl named Ashleigh and looking for a wedding photographer! We met up in Charlottesville and talked about their wedding, which, by the way, is going to be so beautiful. I’m so excited about it, especially after meeting and spending time with Ashleigh. She is SO gorgeous, and these two are so cute together. They are such great complements to one another. Thanks for hanging with me yesterday, y’all! Hopefully you guys didn’t get any ticks when I made you crawl threw the tall grass!

I love that necklace! A gift from Alex… so good!

Those eyes. I love this photo.

And I love these too.

Location | Engagement Shoot Style

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

I just want to throw this out there. Into the mix of really good advice when it comes to engagement shoot locations. I’m not saying this is really good advice, but I just want to mix it in with the rest. There are a few things that really MAKE your engagement shoot, and I want to focus on LOCATION.

I see so many fields. Grassy, hilly, country fields. And I love them. For real. I grew up riding horses. Open fields are in my blood. But are YOU a couple who wants their shoot to be in a grassy field? Or were you not able to think of any other option and figured the photos would be pretty? I’m here to bring you a few off the beaten path engagement shoot location ideas to hopefully spark your creativity when choosing a location.

Things to think about when it comes to location:

1. What do we like to do together?
Cook? Go out to eat? Why not do that for your session? Or have it in a kitchen where you’re making something together. Sing? Are you musicians? Think about asking your favorite venue if they’d let you in and turn on the stage lights. Read? Snuggle up with a good book? There are plenty of cafe’s or book stores that would love to open their doors for you.

2. Check your PDA levels.
One of my main goals is to get some relaxed, romantic, real images. Are you a couple that can be romantic and “into each other” with other people around? Or do you want a nice quiet little spot? When I ask you if you can kiss each other or whisper into each his/her ear, will you be feel comfortable doing so?

3. WHY are you choosing the location?
Is it because it represents you? Does it hold a special place in your life? Did you meet there? Is it where he proposed? Try not to land on a place because you can’t think of anywhere else…

I went out a few days ago and drove around, snapping a few “engagement shots” without a couple, and with a point and shoot. I love to have suggestions to tell people when they ask, “where should we go?” As much as I want my clients to choose their own location, sometimes it helps to have ideas thrown at you! Here are a few of my own:

Ball Park //  Loves sports. Competitive couple. Met during intermurals in college. Plays softball. All American.

Nursery // Going green. Love gardening and growing. Met at the farmer’s market. Loves the spring time. Big on flowers.

Urban Landscape // City people. Met in the club. Up for the unexpected. Love an urban feel.

Brittney + Evan | Mechanicsville Engagement Session

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

These two.

I met them a few months ago at a Panera in Short Pump. As soon as they walked in, I felt like I’d met them before. I know I hadn’t, but you know how people just have a familiar feeling? I found myself going off on tangents as if I were talking to friends I hadn’t seen in a while. Reel it back in, Ali, this is a client meeting.

We shot at the location where Brittney and Even got engaged. They drove past it millions of times, back and forth to their house. It was so special for them to invite me to that place, and for me to be able to take photos of them there! I’m so excited to shoot their wedding later this year. Until then, enjoy this couple.

I LOVE this shot. Up close and personal…

The light was so beautiful, and these two had some chemistry going… a brilliant combo.

How cool is this location? Way to go, Mechanicsville.

We went over to Brittney’s house. This is her back yard…

Featured | United With Love

Monday, March 12th, 2012

Where is Marriage Monday, you say? We’re just going to have to have another Marriage Tuesday. Because… Alisandra Photography was featured on United With Love on Friday!!!

It was such a sweet surprise and huge honor. This blog posts some of The District’s finest celebrations, and I’m very excited to be featured. Adrienne and David were engaged last year, and married two weekends ago in New Orleans. You may remember their engagement…

Thanks again, UWL!

Laura + Pete | Downtown Charlottesville Engagement

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

I’m starting to experience how fun it is to shoot in the same town in which you live. I love having a chance to scout out a few places to shoot before I arrive. The shoot goes by SO fast because only a small percentage of time is spent finding the light. Laura and Pete are getting married in Charlottesville next year and I’m so excited we’re working together. Laura is a JMU grad, and like most JMU brides, she is AWESOME. So energetic, and as a mutual friend described, “A bubbly little thing!” We had a blast wandering around. Laura loved different textures so we tried to incorporate those as much as possible! Pete, you’re great too. I think I made you sit in mud at some point. Thanks for putting up with me! Again, so excited for this wedding!

Nikki + Corey | Charlottesville Engagement

Monday, November 7th, 2011

Although I’ve been in Charlottesville since May, I’ve not had but a hand full of shoots here. It takes time to let people know I’m here! Nikki and Corey are getting married in Fredericksburg next year, but were excited to come to Charlottesville for their engagement session for “something different. We drove around looking for parks with parking and water. The water was the tricky one. I spent time on google maps looking for little blue dots and lines representing rivers and ponds. It was great to get out and explore my still-new city! Anyway, Nikki and Corey arrived and off we went to the locations I had scouted out. Nikki and Corey are so fun together. They have a child-like, playful kind of love. They make each other laugh, and are clearly so right for each other. Enjoy these images!!

PRETTY. Both of you. I can see those bright green eyes from here.

Sneak Peek | Nikki + Corey

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Corey reminded Nikki last night to limit herself to checking the blog to once a day while waiting for her engagement photos to be posted. Always looking out… I had fun finding light and parking a few days ago, and the full post will be coming soon, y’all!

Halley + Kevin | Old Town Alexandria Engagement

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

We planned to meet for a client meeting. Halley had the BRILLIANT idea to do not only a client meeting, but also an engagement session. It had snowed the day before. Using the Starbucks on Union and King as our warm retreat, we strolled around Alexandria and chatted, shot, got to know one another… and shivered! Kevin and Halley met each other through a mutual friend from their Florida university. They hit it off, and now here they are planning a Charlottesville wedding! Congrats on your engagement, you two!

Diana + Stephen | Horse Country Engagement

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

Get ready for this one, readers. It might get emotional. And I have way too many images, but I really had trouble narrowing it down!

Diana is my childhood best friend. We grew up riding together. We had sleep overs and talked about boys. We sang to the Grease soundtrack and Michael Jackson cd’s using her bed as a stage. I helped her paint her room powder pink and baby blue. The other day we talked on the phone for 2 hours. We talked about commitment in relationship and what it looks like. Knowing we’ve not been through a long marriage, but knowing we’re committed. I realized that we’d changed. We were no longer in high school, or middle school for that. I’m so thrilled she met a guy who can complement her spunk and silliness but at the same time meet her at a place of commitment and depth. SO excited for Diana and Stephen’s wedding next year! By the way, HUGE thanks to Cyndi at Salon Emage Day Spa for the make up and hair on Diana. SO beautiful!

We started in Middleburg. FIRST frame. YES.

After Middleburg, we stopped by the barn to say hello to Bittersweet.

Then headed out to the battlefield with Gizmo and Asta.

Check out those shoes. Heck yes.

FAVORITE.

The bling.

Love you guys! I had so much fun with you!
